His doggy business is cleaning up

It's a dirty job, and Al Gauthier's glad to do it. Thanks to his "Poop-Patrol" service, dog owners' backyards all over the GTA are kept spotless. "It's a beautiful job," Gauthier says. "You're out in nature all day, you get to spend time with dogs, and you take your breaks whenever you want."

Scoop in hand, he'll visit your backyard once or twice a week. The cleanup costs start at $10 per week for one dog. For those who put it off he'll be offering a "spring cleaning" service in coming months. Rates will depend on the size of the job.

It's one of three services Gauthier provides under the name Beyond Obedience. He also sells Naturally Canadian an all-natural dog food, and delivers it to your door.

"As a guy who picks up poop, this is the best dog food around," he says.

Gauthier also offers obedience lessons. They usually involve five weekly one-hour sessions, at a total cost of $325 plus tax.

"I come to your homes and offer five basic commands - plus more specific problem-solving," says Gauthier.

He started the business in the summer of 1999. At first, it was a part-time venture, as he also worked for a roofing company. Business picked up quickly, and it's been a full time effort for just over a year.

Now he's looking to hire help for Poop-Patrol, since he expects to double his workload this spring.
